Locate your main stopcockUsually at the water meter — near the front boundary or in a ground-level cupboard. Turn clockwise to isolate.
Open taps to drain pressureTurn on the lowest tap in the building to relieve pressure and drain residual water from the pipes.
Isolate electrics near waterIf water is near power points, switchboards or appliances — isolate that circuit at the meter board.
Document the damagePhotograph and video the affected area before any clean-up. Essential for insurance claims.

<200 kPa
Too Low
Inadequate for appliances. May indicate a blockage, undersized mains or burst supply line. Pressure booster or investigation required.
200–500 kPa
Optimal
AS/NZS 3500.1 standard range for residential service. Adequate for all standard fixtures, appliances and irrigation systems.
>500 kPa
Too High
Damages fixtures, appliances and pipe joins. Increases hot water wastage. A pressure reducing valve (PRV) should be installed immediately.
